Il Divo in Kuala Lumpur to kick off world tour
KUALA LUMPUR: International operatic supergroup Il Divo arrived here yesterday to kick off their 2007 World Tour.
David Miller from the United States and Urs Buhler from Switzerland arrived in the afternoon while Sebastian Izambard (France) and Carlos Marin (Spain) arrived last night.
Clad in casual wear, Miller and Buhler looked relaxed as they were greeted at the Shangri-La Hotel here. Buhler flew in from wintry Milan while Miller came in from the United States.
Il Divo has released four albums to international acclaim and has sold millions of albums worldwide. They will begin their show on Jan 16 at the Plenary Hall, KL Convention Centre.

How often do you guys get drunk?
CARLOS MARIN – Not often. I don’t drink anyway. We can’t go really wild because we have to take care of our voices.
DAVID MILLER – But it’s not like we’re priests [laughs]. We don’t stay in our hotel rooms every night steaming our voices. We just can’t go crazy, especially not the night before a show. But after a show we’ll sometimes go to a club or restaurant. If we get drunk we’ll usually end up singing.
Do your fellow drinkers enjoy the free show?
DAVID – No, they normally tell us to shut up!
SEBASTIEN IZAMBARD - It’s true. They do.
What’s been your most embarrassing drunken moment?
SEBASTIEN –I’d been out partying with my friends, got very drunk, turned up at my girlfriend’s– and then threw up all over her flat. We hadn’t been going out that long so she can’t have been very pleased with me.
URS BUHLER – I don’t drink that often, but when I do drink I start talking more. And when I drink a lot of alcohol, I get really miserable – and then I throw up. After that I have no idea what I do – I completely lose myself.
DAVID – It would have to be the first time I got drunk, which was when I was 26-years-old. I went out with some friends to a bar and accidentally ordered too many drinks. But I told the barman not to worry and that I’d drink them. I had the equivalent of about 18 shots in 15 minutes. Yes, I was totally wasted. I couldn’t even walk by myself.
